One of the best cards I have bought......

Winfast PVR 2000 OEM

That little card was a pretty neat addon for turning my PC into a multimedia power house, with it I have the ability to watch live TV and record live TV on my PC, also it has a built in FM receiver so I can listen to and record FM radio with it, it features composite and Svideo connections for hooking up additional devices to it like vcr's and DVD players or anything with sound and video outputs to its inputs.

It also has built in hardware MPEG encoder so it frees up the computers CPU to handle other task while the card itself does the encoding, I have the ability to record direct to harddrive or direct to CD or DVD write feature, it can also encode to other formats as well but those formats other than MPEG 1 or 2 and or mp3 requires the computers CPU for encoding like WMV, Divx, WMA or any other codes you may have installed on your computer.

DVR functions or in this case PVR, pause and record live TV so you don't miss something in case you have to walk away, schedule to record events and built in program guide are just a few more of its features.

Some screen shots I included for showing the picture qualities of the card, although I wish I had the dish hooked up to this card but it is on aerial antenna instead so the pics are not going to be as sharp as say if I had it hooked up on the dish itself, but hey the 50" projection is on the dish so, for a nice addition to making your PC a home entertainment center these cards are pretty nice to have.

  1. How cool is that!?! I just bought the XPS400 from Dell. I am supposed to have the capability of watching and recording Tv. I haven't been able to get the wireless router yet and I just hope I can fiqure it out. Most of what you wrote was kind of greek to me,,,lol It came with Win Media Edition software, which I hope is basicly XP Prof. You would be a handy man to have around a computer!

  2. TY, Some do and dont know that i build my own systems, that XPS400 is pretty nice and if you get everything that the Dell ad proclaims you pretty much have a computer on par with what I have built and own, with the Tv tuner capture card I have turned my PC into a multimedia center, I have had already the Dolby 5.1 surround sound (actually 7.1 surround sound if I upgrade to that speaker set) and Nvidia High end graphics card installed, I have Windows XP Pro installed and if I remember correctly Media Center ED is based on XP Pro, anyways I have MCE too just have not installed it because its basically XP Pro with media enhancements, I did some research on that prior to my purchasing the card because I didnt want to down grade my XP to a home version.

The router should not be too hard to configure but i know it can be a headache if they did not supply proper directions. LOL :) alot of people have said the same thing about it being greek, but in due time it catches on and makes more sence as you learn about it, my family is the first too call when they have PC issue's and do they ever call, but thats been my line of work in life is something computer based, whether it was Internet Tech support or when I worked FEMA it was at a desk with a PC, having other skills paid off with each other in this line of work ;)

  3. I worked at Earthlink for awhile selling Home Networking and Internet, but am dumb when it gets too technical. I had a fellow from Earthlink build my last one. I told him I wanted a high speed gaming system. Sony DVD/CD burner. I said whatever it took for me to do whatever I wanted. He installed the Nvidia High end graphics card too. It was great till it overheated and poofed. Was useless. I was sick. What was supposed to save me money ended up costing over $700 and didn't last 3 months. That is why I decide to go ahead and invest in the Dell this time. At least I would have some sort of warranty. I am pretty sure the Media edition is XP PRO, not home. I didn't want the home edition.

  4. Thats is something :) my internet connection is sprint dsl and my isp is earthlink or sprint earthlink. I worked tech support for AT&T Worldnet, and was one of the best Techs. Are you a gamer as well? :)

Sounds like the guy overclocked the system or did not seat the heat sink on the cpu properly, or the case and internals lacked proper ventalation. All the computers I have built are still going strong today, I never Overclock a system as you can burn one up fast if not careful.

MCE is XP pro, I take it you have the XPS now? Do you like the Multimedia abilities? I know I enjoy this setup in having full flexibility to create and or enjoy :)
